Philosophy:

We are all born to be creative. Just watch any child at play, and you'll know that joyful creativity is our natural state. Unfortunately, most of us have it drummed out of us by the time we get through middle school. We learn that taking creative risks is often painful and humiliating, and decide that, to protect our fragile selves, it's better to be safe than sorry. We allow the negative voices of our often well-intentioned (and sometimes cruel) parents, teachers, siblings, classmates and others to take up permanent residence in the back of our minds, to rule our worlds and inhibit or even stop creativity. If we've chosen a creative life, we might still feel that our efforts at creativity are insignificant at best. Perhaps you have recognized the need to change, but have discovered that, after a good start, you are stuck again. Fortunately, it is possible to re-program the subconscious mind, overcome negative beliefs and "creative blocks" to live a meaningfully creative life. And this is where I come in: I provide the help you need to get out of your own way so that you can create joyfully and live in harmony with your deepest values.

Methods of Working:

In-person, phone, email (in that order of preference) First list the methods, choosing from email, phone, in-person, then you can add a parenthetical that might say what you prefer

Specializations:

I specialize in helping people find solutions that work and make changes that last, especially in the areas of overcoming creative blocks, parenting and relationship enhancement, by helping people access their deepest values, build on their strengths and add the resources they need to achieve their goals.

Individual Services:

You will share what's going on in your mind and in your life. I will listen and offer support, feedback, and suggestions; sometimes, I will assign homework or tasks for you to do, or ask you to design your own activities in support of your goals. We'll work together as frequently or infrequently as needed, typically not more often than once a week, for as long as you need the help.

Training and Experience:

I earned my Master's degree in counseling psychology from Temple University in 1986, a certification in neurolinguistic programming in 1989 and many continuing education credits in the years since. I am a licensed professional counselor in good standing in New Jersey and have been helping people in various roles as an educator, coach, counselor and mediator since 1980. As a founding member of the Garden State Songwriters, I have coached many aspiring performers at the monthly open mic I have hosted since 2001.
