Philosophy:

Finding your creativity and creating new ideas are the most exciting and meaningful activities for humans. I seek to inspire everyone I work with. I want my clients to love working with me and feel they have achieved their best.

I specialize in idea development and writing. I excel at helping people develop the kernel of an idea into a product or service that can take off. I have been in publishing 35+ years and so I have an extensive background in book writing, editing, ghostwriting, and publishing.​​

 

Individual Services Offered:

I work with anyone to develop their ideas or to write a book. Through dialogue, I do a process called “pulling the book (or ideas) out of you.” I can coach clients to write their own book and edit it, or I can ghostwrite it.

 

Workshops:

12 Ways to Organized Ideas into a Book – This workshop teaches writers the 12 fundamental organizational structures that are commonly used in writing a non-fiction book.

How to Write Your Book in 60 Days – This workshop teaches serious authors how to go from idea to finished manuscript in about 60 days.

Traditional vs. Self-Publishing – This talk teaches writers the pros and cons of traditional publishing using an agent and a publishing company versus self-publishing your book.

Models of Creativity – This talk teaches people the various theories and models of creativity. Understanding these models can be enlightening in helping artists and business people recognize where their creativity comes from and how best to inspire it.

Classes Offered:

12 Ways to Organized Ideas into a Book – This class teaches writers the 12 fundamental organizational structures that are commonly used in writing a non-fiction book. 

How to Write a National Bestseller – This class teaches writers the steps to writing a powerful, engaging book that has potential to sell to a large national market.

Retreats Offered:Powerful & Seriously Fun Book Writing Retreat – This is 3 day / 2 night retreat conducted in various parts of the U.S. where Rick and his business partner Susan Shankin help non-fiction writers learn how to write a book. The workshop includes lengthy sessions on how to organize your ideas into a book, how to build an author platform, how to write your book in 60 days, and how to market and promote your book. The retreat always includes time for fun (such as wine tastings) whose goal is to spark creativity. The retreat is customized and personalized. It can be conducted for a single person or for a group up to 8 people. We try to conduct them in the countryside near wine tasting areas.

 

Training and Experience:

Rick has been an editor and writer for 35 years. He has worked for Houghton Mifflin, Prentice Hall, and Jeremy P. Tarcher. He has ghostwritten 15 books in many fields including self-help, creativity, business, and health. He has edited more than 200 books. Rick is the editor of numerous creativity books, including the bestselling The Artist’s Way. He has also written articles and papers for many businesses and corporations. He has a B.A. and M.A. degree in French literature. Rick is the Founder of the Creativity Coaching Association before passing the reins to Beverly Down, CCA President & CEO.
